Review and Analysis
The best laid plans of mice and men often go awry.
Ensuring we’re working towards the right goals in the right way.
Internal and external reviews are a vital part of RECA’s overall strategy.
- Internal reviews assess our performance results, processes, and progress towards goals.
- Third-party reviews of RECA’s operations provide an unbiased assessment of our effectiveness.
We review our progress. We document our successes. We analyze our challenges. We learn what works as well as what we need to adjust. Then we report back to our stakeholders.
Annual Reports
RECA reports back to stakeholders in the annual report. It’s where you’ll find the statistics and results of our work over the past year.
The Real Estate Act outlines what RECA must include in its annual report to the Minister of Service Alberta and Red Tape Reduction. Each year, RECA reports:
- achievements and progress towards:
- the goals of the business plan
- other strategies identified by RECA’s Board
- the number of:
- licensees in each Industry
- unsuccessful licence applications
- licences suspended, cancelled, or made conditional
- audited financial statements, showing the annual income and expenses, including compensation paid to:
- Board members
- Industry Council members
- the chief executive officer
- the registrar
- payouts from the Real Estate Assurance Fund
RECA must publish the annual report within 120 days after the end of its fiscal year.

Regulatory Assessments
RECA’s job as a regulator is to protect consumers.
It’s important that what we do and how we do it fit this purpose.
On top of our internal reviews, we periodically hire review firms to provide an unbiased assessment of our operations. These third-party assessments:
- review the effectiveness of RECA’s operations on their own merit
- compare RECA’s effectiveness to that of other regulators
